Working in Skipton

A good floor starts below the surface.

For a tiling project in Skipton, the tile is only one part of the floor. The supporting surface, any changes in level and the junctions with neighbouring rooms need to work with the proposed finish.

That is particularly useful to discuss when an existing floor is being replaced, several rooms are being joined by one tile layout or natural stone is being considered. The construction and material guide the preparation; the appearance alone does not determine the installation method.

ONYX also carries out bathroom and shower installations. Whether the work is a separate floor or part of a wider renovation, we can discuss how the setting out, preparation and finishing details should come together.

The right scope for your project

From the surface
to the smallest detail.

All services

Stone selected for its setting

Marble, limestone and travertine each need consideration of the particular material and intended use. We discuss handling, fixing and any sealing requirements alongside the visible arrangement of the pieces.

Natural stone

Floors that meet neatly

The layout is considered across the space, including doorways and adjoining finishes. Preparation, the proposed floor build up and changes of material belong in the brief before the tiling starts.

Specialist tiling

Bathrooms and tiled shower areas

For a shower installation, we consider the surface finish with the waterproofing and drainage arrangement. Floor construction and available depth need checking before a particular layout is confirmed.

Before we talk

Look beyond the square metre figure.

A floor area is useful, but it does not explain the whole installation. Add these details to a Skipton project enquiry.

  1. Show the existing floor

Photographs of the surface and any exposed construction help explain what is known. Note visible cracks or movement, previous floor coverings and any areas that have not yet been opened up.

  2. Include the adjoining rooms

Door clearances, thresholds and neighbouring floor finishes can affect the available height. If you want one continuous layout, show the full route through the rooms.

  3. Mention heating and new screeds

If underfloor heating or a new screed is involved, send the system information and any available installation records. The preparation and fixing specification must suit the complete arrangement.

Planning work in Skipton?

Have a question about your own room?
Ask ONYX

Can you tile an existing floor in an older property?

We can discuss it, but the existing construction and condition need assessing. Age alone does not tell us which preparation is appropriate. Share photographs and what you know about the supporting floor.

Will decoupling matting solve cracks in a floor?

Not automatically. Uncoupling products have defined uses and limitations. Existing cracking or movement needs investigating, and the supporting floor must be suitable for the proposed system.

Does natural stone need different preparation from porcelain?

It can. The stone type, thickness, weight, background and intended use all affect the specification. Send the exact product information if you have it so these requirements can be considered together.

Can I enquire about a project outside Skipton?

Yes. Include the town or postcode and a description of the work. We can then discuss whether the scope, travel and programme are a suitable fit before you make further arrangements.
