The ONYX approach

Understand the stone. Consider every piece.

Natural stone brings variation in tone, veining and texture. Taking time to look at the material and plan its arrangement makes a real difference to how the finished surface feels.

Weight, thickness and handling requirements can differ considerably from porcelain. We consider the substrate, cutting and fixing method in relation to the particular stone and the area where it will be installed.

Adhesives, grouting and any sealing or finishing requirements are considered alongside the layout. The aim is a considered installation that works with the character of the material.

Questions worth asking

Have a question about your own room?
Ask ONYX

Is every natural stone suitable for a bathroom?

Suitability depends on the exact stone, its finish and where it will be used. Ask the supplier to confirm the intended application and maintenance requirements before ordering. A stone chosen for a dry feature wall may need a different assessment for a shower floor.

Will natural stone need sealing?

Some stones benefit from an appropriate impregnator, while others do not require one. The stone supplier and product manufacturer should guide the choice. Sealing does not make stone stain proof or replace waterproofing beneath a wet area.

Can the veining and colour variation be planned?

We can discuss the arrangement using the material available. Natural variation is part of stone, so looking through the actual pieces is more useful than relying on a single small sample.
