Homeowner questions
How long does a bathroom installation take?
What shapes the programme, which decisions to make early and how to plan around having work carried out in your home.

There is no useful single timescale for every bathroom. The amount of preparation, changes to the layout and the detail of the tiling all influence the programme. It is better to agree a sequence for your room than plan around a number that belongs to a different project.
Understand the stages
A bathroom installation can involve removing the existing finishes, checking the construction, plumbing and electrical preparation, waterproofing, tiling and the final fitting of sanitaryware and accessories.
Some stages depend on others being complete. Products also have their own drying or curing requirements, which should be followed rather than shortened to fit an optimistic completion date. The relevant product instructions and actual conditions determine those intervals.
Make the decisions that affect the room early
The position of a shower valve, the size of a niche or the thickness of a selected tile can influence work that happens before tiling starts. Late changes may mean revisiting preparation as well as the visible finish.
Before work begins, aim to agree the layout, key products, tile sizes, pattern, grout and exposed edge details. If something is still undecided, tell the installer so its effect on the sequence can be discussed.
Check what is actually available
A product being displayed online does not confirm that it will be on site when needed. Check delivery arrangements, inspect received items and make sure the correct quantities and sizes have arrived.
Large pieces can also need access planning. Tell us about stairs, narrow passages, parking restrictions or other practical conditions when you enquire.
Plan for living around the work
Discuss which facilities will be available, how access to the room will work and where materials can be stored. If it is your only bathroom, say so at the start.
It is also useful to agree how updates and any changes to the programme will be communicated. A clear conversation before work starts helps everyone understand what happens next.
Send your location, photographs and any dates you are working towards through our enquiry form. We can discuss the scope of your bathroom installation and what needs confirming before a programme is agreed.
